John Michael Kantner (Mike), born in Detroit, Michigan on May 7, 1946, to John Briggs and Joy Stepnitz Kantner, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 7, 2022, at the age of 75, way too soon.
A graduate of Michigan State University with a BA in Financial Administration, he was an accountant by profession and shared these skills with several non profit community organizations. A military veteran, Mike served in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve for six years, including one tour on a mine sweeper in Vietnam.
Mike was an avid collector of books, model trains, antiques and the like. His special interest was in collecting coins, a hobby he shared with great nephew Brett Baker.
He is survived by a loving and extended family. His wife of 54 years, Barbara Lenheiser, daughter, Tonya Kantner May (Thomas Hayes), son, John Timothy (Mechelle) and honorary daughter, Shannon Davis. Grandchildren John Patrick Kantner, Abigail Joyann May, Ryan James May and Addison Shae Bennett. Sister and brother in law, Margo and Ronald Hoornstra. He recently welcomed his wife’s newfound family members brother in law, Lynn (Joan) Ball and sisters in law, Kathleen Ball and Denise O’Conner. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins Gayle and D. Neil Barr and loving dog Sadie, along with step grandchildren Roxanne, Veronica, Trevor and Victoria. Pre-deceased by cousin William Wetzel.
