VFW MI Department Commander's Memorial Day Message

- 5/24/2024

Comrades and friends,

This Memorial Day, we are reminded of the sacrifices made by the men and women who have served this nation in uniform for nearly 250 years. The VFW membership exists to not only serve our nation after we take off our uniforms, but also to preserve the memory and legacy of our comrades no longer with us. We want to be reminders to our nation to live each day in gratitude to the Americans who served and died for our futures.

Because of deep sacrifice, we look forward to growing our families and communities surrounded by freedom, equality and opportunity. As you Department Commander, I encourage you to take time this Memorial Day, and every day, to reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice in support and defense of the Constitution of the United States. Please honor those who gave their all by remembering them and recognizing their service. Through grief and gratitude, we ensure they are never forgotten or left behind.

Ray Lopez, State Commander, VFW Department of Michigan
